Product Overview
Is your hot water heater is more than 10 years old? It might be time to consider a new one. The lifespan of a conventional storage hot water heater is between 10 and 15 years. After all those years of service, sediment build-up and corrosion inside the tank can take their toll.
The GE RealMAX Series Choice GP50S08AYV is a gas power vent hot water heater. A GE power vent hot water heater gives you the flexibility of venting on your terms! The GE GP50S08AYV can be installed with horizontal or vertical venting / termination as well as using PVC, ABS or CPVC venting plus you get vertical length of up to 150 ft. It features an 8 year tank and limited parts warranty. GE's RealMAX Series include features like Real Capacity which means their tanks hold what they say they will hold. For example the GP50S08AYV will hold 47 gallons of hot water. They also feature a best-in-class performance that delivers great First Hour Rating. With the GP50S08AYV you will get up to 65 gallons (Measured through DOE First Hour Rating) of hot water in the first hour of use. The 36,000 BTU burner allows for maximum performance to quickly aid in replenishing the hot water in your tank. Rest assured that this large 50 gallon hot water heater will provide sufficient hot water for the whole family. It is intended to be used for households between 3 and 5 people. Temperature settings range from 45° to 160°.
The GE GP50S08AYV is considered a short tank in that it is 54" tall including the power vent mounted on top. The tank itself is 46-1/2" to the top of the unit. This tank requires clearances all around and will not fit in a crawl space! It is 25" around, plus the controls on the unit itself. Ideally, locating it next to a drain would be helpful for tank maintenance, making it easier to drain. This water heater is for use with Liquid Propane. This water heater will also be available in Natural Gas (GG50S08AYV).
In addition to the flexibility of venting a power vent hot water heater, some other advantages include energy savings as power vent units use less gas to operate and a lower risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
GE's water heater construction includes a Magnesium Anode Rod, designed to offer long lasting protection against corrosion, helping to extend the life of your water heater. Additionally, a brass drain valve will also provide long lasting results. With Ge's SmartShield ™ Safety System your system monitors the surrounding air and automatically shuts off the unit if abnormal temperatures or flammable vapors are detected. Out with the old and in with the new - GE's water heaters are easy to install using standard water and gas connections and are probably more efficient in the long run than your old water heater. The unit also monitors and reports on the system status with LED status indicator light.
